The Discipline of Criminal Procedure Law

  The criminal procedure law discipline of Southwest University of Political Science and Law is a national key discipline. In 1979, it began to enroll Master's degree students, and in 1995, it began to enroll Doctoral students (the second batch of doctor's degree programs of procedural law in China and the first doctor's degree programs of law in our university). It has trained nearly 2,000 law masters and more than 240 doctor in law for the country, many of which later grew into China's famous jurists, legal practice experts or leading talents in other fields.

  There are 26 full-time teachers in the discipline, including 8 professors, 11 associate professors, 7 doctoral instructors and 20 postgraduate instructors. In addition, there are 1 part-time doctoral instructor and more than 10 part-time postgraduate instructors outside the University. Among the full-time teachers, 24 have doctorates, and 9 have more than one year of overseas study experience, forming a good source of learning structure; more than 73% of the teachers are young and middle-aged scholars under the age of 50, with strong follow-up development potential.

  The discipline has a good tradition in legal talent training, and its teaching achievements have been awarded national and provincial awards for many times. In 2004, the core course for undergraduate Criminal Procedure Law was rated as “Chongqing Excellent Course” and “National Excellent Course”; in 2007 and 2010, the teaching team of criminal procedure law was successively rated as the “Chongqing Excellent Teaching Team” and “National Excellent Teaching Team”; in 2016, the course of Criminal Procedure Law was rated as the “National Excellent Resource-sharing Course”; in 2017, the “Multi-teacher in one class of mixed graduate students and doctoral students teaching mode” was awarded as the “Excellent Course of Postgraduate Education” in Chongqing.

  The discipline has scientific research platforms such as the Research Center of Procedural Law and Judicial Reform, the Research Base of Criminal Prosecution of the Supreme People's Procuratorate. Relying on these platforms and with the support of the University, the discipline in recent years has hosted national academic conferences such as "Annual Conference of China Criminal Procedure Law Research Association", "High end Forum of Criminal Procedure System and Judicial Reform", "The 5th Criminal Justice Forum", "Seminar on Teaching Reform of Law Graduate Students", etc., together with the Supreme People's Procuratorate and judicial organs of various regions, law firms and other institutions. On behalf of the school, the full-time teachers of the discipline participated in the 13th United Nations Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice, the 20th International Comparative Law Conference, the Universal Periodic Review Meeting of the United Nations Human Rights Council, the 8th Judicial and Human Rights Forum of China and the United States, the Sino German Human Rights Forum and other international academic conferences as well as a number of domestic academic conferences, with active academic exchanges.

  The discipline has always attached great importance to scientific research. Since 2016, the full-time teachers of criminal procedure law discipline have been approved 8 national projects such as the national social science fund project, 29 provincial and ministerial projects such as the humanities and social science planning project of the Ministry of Education, with a vertical scientific research fund of 2.882 million yuan, 16 horizontal cooperation projects, and a receipt fund of 3.259 million yuan. The average scientific research fund of teachers is 236,200 yuan, including 512,600 yuan for doctoral instructors and 305,000 yuan for postgraduate instructors. The discipline members has successively published 5 academic papers in B-level Journal of law research, China L aw , and 40 academic papers in C-level Journal of Chinese and foreign law, many of which have been reprinted in full text by  China Social Science Digest , academic digest of colleges and universities, and materials of copying newspapers and periodicals of Renmin University of China, etc. The teaching and scientific research achievements have won 10 teaching and scientific research awards at or above the provincial and ministerial level, including the second prize of “National Degree and Graduate Education Achievements”, the second prize of “Chongqing Teaching Achievements”, the second prize of “The 9th Excellent Achievement of Philosophy and Social Sciences in Chongqing”, the first prize of “The 4th Excellent Achievement of Criminal Procedural Law” for middle-aged and young people, and the second prize and third prize of “The 1st Dong Biwu Young Law Academic Achievement Award” of China Law Society.
